About GraveRoots
GraveRoots is a free directory that helps family historians find the cemeteries where their ancestors may be buried, one town at a time.
Finding a grave usually means knowing which of a town's burial grounds to check, and who keeps the records. Many towns have far more cemeteries than people expect, from the main town cemetery to small family plots. We list the cemeteries in each town with a map link and point you to the local offices and free resources that hold burial and death records.
Where the data comes from
Cemetery names and locations come from The National Map, published by the U.S. Geological Survey. The data is in the public domain. It is not complete, and locations can be approximate, so always confirm with local sources before you travel.
Coverage
We currently cover Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and we're adding more states over time.
How the site is funded
The directory is free to use. Some pages include partner links to genealogy record services. If you sign up through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Read our affiliate disclosure for details.
